Cold Brew Support

Cold Brew keeps your Mac awake from the menu bar. Turn on Brew Mode, pick how long, and your Mac stays awake until the time is up.

Getting started

Cold Brew lives in the menu bar, so it has no Dock icon or window. After you open it, look for the cup at the right side of the menu bar and click it.

Brew Mode turns keeping your Mac awake on and off. It starts the duration you picked last.
Duration picks how long: 30 minutes to 8 hours, a time of your own, or ∞ for no time limit.
+15m and +1h add time to a running session.
Settings has everything else, from launch at login to a keyboard shortcut.

Questions

I can't see the cup in the menu bar.

On a Mac with a notch, a full menu bar can hide it. Hide a few other items in System Settings › Menu Bar, or open Cold Brew again from Launchpad or Spotlight to get its panel in a window.

Does Cold Brew keep my Mac awake with the lid closed?

No. Like the built-in caffeinate command, Cold Brew stops your Mac from going to sleep on its own. Closing the lid still puts it to sleep, unless it's connected to power and an external display.

Can the display sleep while my Mac stays awake?

Yes: turn on Allow display to sleep in Settings. That's handy for downloads and backups.

How do I start Cold Brew automatically?

Turn on Launch at login in Settings. Turn on Activate at launch too, to start Brew Mode as soon as Cold Brew opens.

Can I control it from Shortcuts or scripts?

Yes, with coldbrew:// links. In Shortcuts, use the Open URLs action:

What happens when I quit?

Your Mac can sleep again. Cold Brew asks first if Brew Mode is on, and nothing is left running in the background.

How do I uninstall Cold Brew?

Turn off Launch at login in Settings, quit Cold Brew, then move it to the Trash.
